Although considered native to Aotearoa, the Tauhou is actually classed as “self-introduced”, arriving sometime in the early 1800s. Small, friendly and prolific, with a distinctive white ring around the eyes, they’re a common sight in most gardens and urban parks, also populating dense forest and bush areas.
